The COLLEGE ESSAY is more important than ever as colleges adopt a holistic method of evaluating potential students! This is your opportunity to let colleges know what makes you unique and how you'll make their campus a better place.
If you're ready to write the kind of college essay that makes college admissions officers champion your acceptance, I pledge to guide you through the entire process from topic discovery to final, submittable draft.
Yes, it requires hard work and dedication from start to finish, but I will coach you every step of the way. All my college essay students enjoy the process and feel tremendous pride and ownership in their completed essays. Most importantly, I can promise you that every essay is as unique as you are.
WHAT IS IT?
THE GOOD NEWS: If admissions officers love your essay, they will champion your acceptance. Don't be surprised if your essay is mentioned in your acceptance letter or a school official says at a campus mixer, "You're the one who wrote about XXX!"
Ready for more good news? You only need to write one college essay. It gets sent to every college through the COMMON APPLICATION.
TOPIC DISCOVERY is a 2-hour, intense working session to determine the topic that will showcase your strongest attributes. To kick off this process, I will share a detailed brainstorming document with questions I've developed myself.
DRAFT REVIEWS are weekly sessions where the student and I discuss each draft openly and honestly. As every writer knows, writing your best work is a process requiring time, effort, and dedication. Expect to write between 5 and 8 different drafts before achieving your submission-ready final draft. I ask that you wait until the essay is finished to share with your family and friends, unless their input is required earlier.
PRICING:
$750 for individual tutoring from start to finish, no matter how long the process takes. I ask for up front payment to enable me to focus on helping your student. This price represents a deep discount because I believe so much in helping students achieve their goals. If I charged my normal $75/hour rate, your overall cost for this process would more than double.
I accept payment through VENMO, Zelle, check, or cash.
Presently, sessions are conducted virtually through a combination of Zoom and Google Docs. I can honestly tell you that meeting virtually works better than in person for me as well as for my students: we're still able to interact one-on-one, don't need to drive anywhere or print anything out, and can make changes and comments live. When students share drafts prior to our weekly sessions, I'm able to read through and make comments and suggestions in advance, which makes our sessions most productive. In contrast, when meeting in person, we rely on printed drafts and hand-written notes.
Thank you for considering me as your COLLEGE ESSAY coach. I’m also happy to assist you with SAT/ACT prep and/or supplemental application essays (these are college-specific, shorter essays) - charged at my regular $75/hour tutoring rate for students.
SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT THE OPTIONAL COVID-19 ESSAY:
The Common App recognizes that many students have been affected by COVID-19. They are providing students with the option to share how they've been impacted in a 250 word response. This optional essay can be found in the Additional Information section of the application. The main college essay is not the place to expressly write about COVID.
Sincerely,
Laura F. Cooper

All my college essay students enjoy the process and feel tremendous pride and ownership in their completed essays. Most importantly, I can promise you that every essay is as unique as you are.
WHAT IS IT?
- The college essay is a 400-650 word personal narrative with you in the starring role. It's unlike the typical high school essay in every way. This essay must reflect your personal experiences, passions, and perspectives and use the word "I".
- It is NOT a travelogue or a place to brag about your achievements. The college essay can be quiet or exciting, but it absolutely must have a point. The point showcases personal growth from a specific experience or highlights the development of a passion. To show personal growth, you have to reveal your flaws.
- Your best topic is rarely the one you, your family, or friends think of first. But rest assured, everyone has a story or two worth telling.
THE GOOD NEWS: If admissions officers love your essay, they will champion your acceptance. Don't be surprised if your essay is mentioned in your acceptance letter or a school official says at a campus mixer, "You're the one who wrote about XXX!"

***TESTIMONIALS***
The Best Decision Ever!
Laura, thank you so much. Our decision to hire a college essay tutor was the best decision ever!! The end result was amazing, and our daughter was accepted to Northeastern, her first choice college. The essay came to life, making you not only want to continue reading it, but making you feel like you were right there with her! Thank you for all your help, support and for challenging her to think outside the box!
Thanks For Your Hard Work
Hi Laura, I was just accepted into Roger Williams, and in the acceptance letter, they mentioned my essay multiple times. I just wanted to thank you again for all the hard work you put in to help me get my ideal essay. It wouldn't have become an ideal essay without your help.
We are so appreciative!
"Laura, thank you again for all of your help and genuine concern for my daughter. She loved working with you and appreciated your thoughtful approach and support throughout the time you worked together.
Thank You!
I'm going to Colby, which is my first choice school! I can't thank you enough for all your help. I'm extremely appreciative.
My Parents Loved My Essay!
I want to thank you so much for all the time and effort you put into helping me. It is really appreciated and I never would have imagined turning hair braiding into such an amazing essay! It was SO great working with you.
Wonderful!
My first session with Mrs. Cooper was mind-blowingly productive. She didn't even get past discussing the first paragraph and it already seemed like a completely different and marvelous work of writing. In our
following 2 sessions, we turned a wall of text way over the required word count into something so simple, perfect, and emotion packed, I couldn’t believe I wrote it. She helped me capture everything I wanted to say and more in a way that was so crystal clear, but yet wasn't dumbed down or simplified. I couldn't have produced the wonderful product I did without her amazing guidance and support.
Thanks For All Your Help!
Hey Laura, I once again wanted to thank you for all your help on my college applications, and would like to let you know that I’ve been admitted to the University of Richmond early decision, so that’s where I’ll be going to college for the next four years. Thank you again for all your help!
