TUTORING FOR GRADES 3-5
My focus with younger students is to demonstrate that reading and writing can be FUN as well as EDUCATIONAL. I teach vocabulary and sentence building through rhyming words, homophones, synonyms, and other types of wordplay. I have a library full of workbooks and worksheets I've created myself, all of which I share with my students. I also have bookshelves filled with books for children of all ages.
Also important for this age group is the ability to properly follow writing prompts and to write good paragraphs with three distinct details. As an avid reader myself, I enjoy finding books that each student will enjoy. Taking turns reading out loud helps students to improve fluency and inflection. We also work on reading comprehension and early book reports in a variety of ways.
